Cast Freetour Information

If you would like to mount the system yourself, please follow this link to our Freetour Mounting Tutorial. The Freetour uses the same hole pattern as the Look Pivot bindings and is a straightforward process if you are experienced mounting skis. There are two added holes shown on our Heel Hole Template provided with every Freetour.

Warning: All bindings must be properly adjusted to the users boot sole length, height, weight, and release preference. The ski/boot/binding system must then be tested with the user's boots in accordance with industry standards before use, to ensure proper function.

Warning: If you are not a properly trained ski technician with the proper tools and a jig, you must have your bindings mounted by an authorized Look® or Cast® dealer.

Yes. All you need is a #3 Posidrive screwdriver or large flathead screwdriver. Here are links to a tutorial video or instructions to see what the conversion entails. Toe Pedestal Upgrade Tutorial or Freetour Upgrade Kit Manual.

The Freetour is an aftermarket upgrade kit that adds touring capabilities to the Look Pivot 15 or 18 bindings. These bindings provide a release value range of either 6-15 or 8-18. It DOES NOT work with the Look Pivot 12 or 14.  Installing the kit requires swapping out the lower portion of the alpine toe pieces.

We have a tutorial video of how to do this on our tutorial page.

The FREETOUR is available with any combination of AFDs to fit all three major boot norms. ALPINE, WTR, and GripWalk.

It is very likely we can add tech inserts to your alpine boots.

We can do any boot with a solid sole or removable alpine lifter.

We cannot do boots where the entire toe lug is swappable or full vibram touring norm 9523 soles.

The Boot Conversion is designed to only work with the Cast Freetour Pivot/Freetour Upgrade Kit, Shift, or Marker Duke PT

For more information pertaining to our boot conversion process please read through our "How the Boot Conversion Works" page. The easiest way to insure that we can do your boots is to send us an email with the boot model and a photo of the sole.

Alpine "ISO 5355" AFDs - will fit all alpine boots that meet ISO 5355.  This sole is your traditional smooth Alpine sole we all grew up with. This includes boots that have CAST’s tech conversion.

Touring "ISO 9523" AFDs - are sized to accommodate boots that meet ISO 9523 touring boot standard. However, the release and retention characteristics of these boots will be affected by the boot’s sole material and tread pattern. They will also fit WTR Boots will fit (Walk to Ride boots),

GripWalk "ISO 23223 "AFDs - will fit all boots with GripWalk soles. Due to the limited overlap between Alpine and GripWalk geometry, we chose to design these AFDs to create maximum energy transfer and more consistent function specifically for the GripWalk norm, as a result, they will not work with Alpine boots.

The Freetour Upgrade Kit uses the same hole pattern as the Look Pivot binding.  If your skis are already mounted with a Look Pivot binding, this is not an issue.  Simply upgrade your Look Pivot 15 or 18 binding with the Freetour Upgrade Kit and then use the existing holes.  Two additional holes will need to be drilled for the brake retainer.  The Heel Hole Template is provided with every purchase of a Freetour and can be downloaded here, Heel Hole Template.
