: a group of Hawks
Lars & Silas
The brand name CAST is derived from the collective noun for a group of hawks in honor of founder Ryan Hawks. Ryan possessed an indomitable spirit and never ending love of life. It is CAST’s goal to honor Ryan’s spirit, as well as others who have died in the mountains by creating quality products which allow for easier access and greater enjoyment of those places where we are closest to them.
With Ryan’s input still strong in our minds, CAST Touring was created in 2012 by brothers Lars and Silas Chickering-Ayers. We had a simple desire to have better access to the mountains while maintaining the ability to enjoy them to the fullest with a reliable, safe binding system. From a first set of prototypes several years ago, that system has grown to the development of the Cast Freetour. The system is compatible with most all touring boots, and CAST has developed a unique process to make many alpine boots tech compatible as well.
Silas and Lars continue to handle operations and production with the help of many amazing friends and input from an ever growing team of athletes from around the world. We strive to continue Ryan’s legacy with the Freetour, and his desire to design the highest performance alpine touring binding. Tech efficiency up, alpine performance down, it’s that simple!
The Flyin Ryan Hawks Foundation is a non-profit endeavor inspired by the life of Ryan Hawks. The foundation was founded in April of 2011 after Ryan, a well-known and widely respected extreme skier, passed away from injuries sustained during a Freeskiing World Tour event in Kirkwood, CA. To honor his legacy as a person, his family set up a non-profit foundation called the Flyin Ryan Hawks Foundation.
